When the Witch demanded payment for the betrayal of Edmund in C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, she invoked deep magic from the dawn of time. In this magic, retribution is only a fair payment for any act committed against anyone, be it betrayal, rebellion, or raising an angry fist towards a benevolent Source.
